Giro d’Italia – Fausto Coppi This atmospheric Italian poster was produced for “Vetrine in Rosa”, the shop-window campaign that Confcommercioruns in partnership with La Gazzetta dello Sport to encourage retailers along the Giro route to decorate their windows in pink for the race. The design features a monochrome mountain-stage photograph that fades into a pink surround, echoing the maglia rosa’s color. Fausto Coppi, in a Bianchi jersey, drives a long line of climbers up an alpine road, with dark conifer forests and rocky slopes filling the background. Below the image, the slogan “Vetrine in Rosa” appears in blue script above the bold CONFCOMMERCIO wordmark, and at the bottom sit the logo for the 83° Giro d’Italia and the masthead of La Gazzetta dello Sport, linking the piece directly to the 2000 edition of the race. The 2000 Giro d’Italia was the 83rd edition of the event, held from 13 May to 4 June 2000, with 21 stages plus a prologue, covering a total distance of 3,676 km. Italian rider Stefano Garzelli won the overall general classification and the pink jersey, with Francesco Casagrande second and Gilberto Simoni third, giving Italy a clean sweep of the final podium. Casagrande also won the mountains classification, Russian sprinter Dimitri Konyshev took the points classification, and Fabrizio Guidi secured the intergiro competition. These lovely “Vetrine in Rosa” are quite scarce as they were only given to shopkeepers in the Start/Finish towns to publicize the race and were not sold to fans. This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed. Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on fragile, thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters, allowing them to be displayed or framed without compromising their value. This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction. Year: 2000 Artist: N/A Printer: N/A Size: 32 x 47 cm (12 ½ x 18 ½ inches) Posters are sold unframed. Framed images are display ideas only. This is a one-of-a-kind item; please review the photos carefully to determine the condition. This item is listed on multiple platforms, and availability is subject to prior sale elsewhere.
